Progress Control: How to Use

WBS (Work Breakdown Structure)

Open form Setup - WBS
Fill in Every column in each level. Start from Level 1, up to level 5. Level 5 was called "Work Step", a typical steps for progressing each item in Level 4.
Engineering work is about developing engineering document. All documents use a same Work Step, i.e. IFR (Issued for Review), IFA (Issued for Approval), and IFC (Issued for Construction). It will be controlled more detail in form Engineering Control.
Procurement work is about managing the procurement steps, i.e. RFQ, PO, Fabrication, Delivery, etc.

Project Cut-off Date
A date serial, normally in weekly basis, when the plan and progress will be monitored, and reported.

Project Target

Open form Setup - Target. This form is for construction work.
Select item in level 4, which is representing a construction activity.
Put the start and finish plan date.
The program will automatically calculate the project target in weekly basis when you click button. And the plan will be plotted to your S-curve.

Engineering Control

All you have to do is work closely with Document Controller. You have to update this form, everytime he submit or modify the MDR. Program will calculate the progress when you close the form.

Procurement Milestone

This form is for monitoring only, it's NOT designed to calculate the procurement progress. Why? Because if we use this dates for prrogress calculation, we can't update the procurement progress partially, i.e. for production progress. Updating procurement progress must be done in form "Progress Update", just like construction progress.

Progress Update
This is the form to update your project achievement (for engineering work use form Engineering Control). All you have to do is just select the work item and fill the progress. You don't need to do any calculation.

Document Control

A part of the whole project management system, is controlling of project documents; project specifications, drawings, construction procedures, etc. The list of these documents normally called MDR (Master Document Register). Number of document can be huge, it depend on the complexity of the project itself. This software can help a document controller work more organized and fully control the circulation of every single document. He'll be able to remind the project team about submission target, he even reminds the project client if they take very long time to review the document. Download the software

Who needs this pipe tracking software?

See this data-flow to understand your position. The process is started from the pipe coater, sended in hard and soft copy. During the process, all data normally compiled (and reviewed) in your project HO.

Progress Control

Progress controlling is about managing, calculating, reporting, and finally, invoicing of your project progress to the project owner.

First, you need to break your project scope of work into a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). It'll make it easy to control and manage. Usually, the major group (level 1) will look like Engineering, Procurement, and Construction. But, surely it depends on your scope.

Preview of WBS updating

Set the target for every step in your WBS, according to the project schedule. This will tell you what your team have to do, from time to time. Very useful.

Finally, submit your report to your boss, and your client to get approval. Even the S-Curve will be shown automatically.

Your friend in Finance Dept. will be able to submit the invoice happily.
